Friday Five: The Hottest E3 Trailers of 2019!

June 14th, 2019 Joshua Ball Event Coverage, Friday Five, Gaming, Lists & Things

E3 has come and gone, and boy oh boy it did not disappoint!

We’re nearly halfway through 2019, and it’s been one hell of a year so far for gamers everywhere, and this year only got better for us with E3’s showing this year. I came into the show feeling a bit skeptical, seeing big names like Sony and Activision not be involved as they have in the past, but in my opinion, all that did was give more room for some of the other big name developers and publishers to come in and really do their damnedest to steal the show. Xbox killed it, Square Enix was lights out, EA impressed, and Nintendo did its Nintendo thing in a big way. So what better way to celebrate the best and brightest in the gaming industry by a good ole fashioned Friday Five: E3 edition, where we’re talking about five of the hottest trailers from E3 2019!

Cyberpunk 2077

I already mentioned my hype and excitement in a piece I wrote yesterday about the E3 conference from Xbox that included the epic and now infamous “You’re Breathtaking!” speech from Keanu Reeves himself, and I don’t really know how much more pumped I can possibly be for CD Projekt Red’s upcoming blockbuster and way-too-early-to-predict GOTY candidate, Cyberpunk 2077. E3 was chock full of incredible game announcements and trailers, but this one might have taken the cake for me this year – bask in the glow of epic Sci-Fi RPG meets Keanu – what more could you want? All I know is I want it, and April 2020 can’t come soon enough.

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2

This one was a bit of a surprise, I have to admit. I think many gaming fans went into E3 this year wanting something new from Zelda, but with the upcoming much-anticipated remake for Link’s Awakening and Cadence of Hyrule on the horizon, I don’t think many folks expected anything big. But then Nintendo came in and was like WOAH HO, WAIT A MINUTE and hit us with this beaut’ right here. Lots of theories and rumors and supposed settings are running rampant, but apparently, they’re going for a bit of a Majora’s Mask approach here, and instead of making a totally brand new game they basically said “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it” and will be making the sequel take place in the same world as before, at least in a way. I don’t know what it all means but honestly, I don’t care I just want me some more LOZ in my life! No release date yet, but I imagine this is something we can look forward to (fingers crossed) by the holiday season next year… But hopefully sooner, Nintendo… Pretty please?

Elden Ring

The brilliant mind of Hidetaka Miyazaki combined with the incredible talent that is George R. R. Martin? The people behind the SoulsBorne series of games that quickly became some of my favorite games of all time, combined with the guy that wrote one of the most epic fantasy adventures of our generation? I really don’t see how you can go wrong here. PLUS, it’s supposedly set in some kind of Norse mythological universe, and I’m all about that mythology so I’m feeling things 100%. The trailer gives me the exact kind of Dark Sously vibe I’d expect from a From Software game, so I’ve got Elden Ring down as a must buy, but with no release date yet I’m just going to have to imagine how rad this epic open-world fantasy RPG is going to be until then…

Final Fantasy VII Remake

How could I not include the Final Fantasy VII Remake on this list? The trailer and accompanying gameplay showcased a lot of what gamers like me have been waiting to see for a long time, and the attention to detail here on all the images and video is pretty incredible – I mean, Tifa has blackheads for crying out loud! I am absolutely in love with this, and even had an opportunity to playtest it a bit during the show, and I gotta say… I couldn’t be more stoked for this game, and I’m so stoked that I’m actually considering the $350 dollar super special edition because the 10-year-old in me is like “OF COURSE YOU NEED TO BUY THAT”, but the 31-year-old with a kid thinks otherwise. We’ll see who ends up winning, but at the end of the day come March 3rd of 2020 we’re all winners when we can finally get our hands on this bad boy!

Halo Infinite

What an absolutely beautiful trailer. Not only is this showing off the upcoming Halo Infinite, but this trailer was also a part of the Xbox Scarlett announcement, which is the code name for the next generation Xbox console coming holiday season 2020. Halo Infinite will be the launch title for the new console, much like how Halo: Combat Evolved, the start of the entire franchise, was the launch title for the OG Xbox back in 2001. Hearing Master Chief’s iconic voice and seeing him come back to life was pretty incredible. It’s clear that he’s needed more than ever, as the Universe has been plunged into chaos – now, he’s used to chaos, that’s for sure, but this time around I think the Chief is in for quite the undertaking. Now if you don’t mind me, I’m going to listen to the Halo theme for the rest of the day, thanks!

Got any killer trailers you liked that I didn’t mention here? Let me know! And since we’re still in the midst of a rad E3 Gaming sale, head over and check out this month’s ALL NIGHTER Loot Gaming Crate, featuring items from Katamari Damacy, Fortnite, and more!
