Gaming: Previewing The ‘Curse Of Osiris’ DLC Coming To ‘Destiny 2’!

November 20th, 2017 Joshua Ball Features, Gaming, Video

It’s almost December, folks – and if you’re a fan of Bungie’s Destiny 2, then it’s going to be a good December for you!  Not only can you get your hands on some awesome Destiny 2 related items in December’s EXPLORE Core Crate, but on December 5th you’ll be able to join your fellow Guardians as you tackle new foes and forge new alliances in the Curse of Osiris DLC!

I have to say I am super excited for this new DLC, like I’m sure many of my Warlock, Titan, and Hunter friends are.  I fell in love with everything that Destiny 2 had to offer, but like many others was a bit bummed that the content was able to be played through and completed relatively fast.  Fortunately, Bungie is following through with its promise to launch new content at a faster pace, and already we’re receiving a level increase, a cool new story, a whole new planet to explore, a new social space, new cooperative strikes and raids to complete, and new Crucible events to participate in.  Seems like it is going to be a good time to be had by all, so I decided to break down the three main things I’m the most excited for!

Welcome to Mercury (Bungie/Activision)

Mercury Rising and the Infinite Forest!

It’s always exciting when a game you’re really into adds a whole new area to explore!  Us Guardians have grinded out Public Events and explored Lost Sectors all over Earth, Titan, Io, and Nessus.  Each of these worlds are gorgeous and filled with things to see and do.  However, after a few months, you can be pretty sure that you’ve seen most of what each of these worlds have to offer.  That’s why I’m super excited for the addition of the newest world:  Mercury!  The newest planet added to our Directory is vital to the Legendary Warlock Osiris’ storyline, of course, but from what we’ve seen in the photographs and videos so far, the world looks pretty damn cool too – maybe one of the coolest I’ve seen yet.  Along with the addition of Mercury, and all the new quests, story lines, Public Events, and Lost Sectors, comes a social space that some of us may be familiar with – the Lighthouse!  Now, up to this point the Lighthouse was reserved for those individuals who were able to complete an undefeated run of the hyper-competitive PvP mode “Trials of Osiris” in Destiny 1.  So it’s really cool to see this space get fleshed out, and opened up to those of us that may not have been so lucky to see it already.

Introducing The Infinite Forest (Bungie/Activision)

Another thing we can expect to see on Mercury, and something I am super pumped about, is the giant Vex gate (more on the Vex in a minute…) that sends Guardians to the Infinite Forest – a Vex simulation hidden deep within Mercury, and one that we’ll be spending a great deal of time playing through.  Bungie revealed that they wanted to create an area for players that “could sit outside time and space”, and that the enemies you encounter or the activities you participate in when you entire the forest could be different each and every time.  This sounds so stinkin’ cool to me, and I hope that this level of procedural generation and unique encounters is as extensive as they’re promising, because that could add a ton of replay-ability for much of this new DLC’s content.

Vexing New Enemies! (Bungie/Activision)

You Vex Me!

Now, this may be some of my nostalgia talking (and anybody who knows me, or any of you that have read my articles in the past, you know I LOVE me some nostalgia!), but I was really, really excited when I found out we were going to be facing off against the Vex in Destiny 2′s newest DLC.  Why, you ask?  Because few things were more exciting, majestic, challenging, and just plain fun as diving into the Vault of Glass with my fellow Guardians at the start of Destiny 1.  That Vex themed raid was incredibly cool, and the back story and overall vibe of the Vex I think is a lot more interesting than what we’ve seen from the Hive, Fallen, Cabal, etc.  There’s just something about time and dimension traveling sentient machines hellbent on taking over the Universe that strikes my fancy.

Curse of Orisis’ “Raid Lair” (Bungie/Activision)

Now, along with these Vexing new enemies (I’m hilarious), we have new Strikes and raid activities to participate in.  I’m assuming some, if not all, of the new Strikes will have some level of Vex theme to them, while the new raid content is definitely something new that Bungie is trying out.  Bungie is infamous for keeping content like their raids very close to the vest, but it has been revealed that the new content for the raid is being called a “raid lair”, and will take place in a space that should be familiar to most Guardians at this point:  on-board the Leviathan.  Now, I have some theories about this… I won’t go too much into details or lore for fear of spoiling something that folks may not have found in Vanilla Destiny 2, but the Leviathan is a titanic world-eating ship that has traveled all over the Universe.  I’m getting a feeling that there may be some lore around the Leviathan coming into contact with Vex, and that it was the beginning of a beautiful (err, deadly) friendship.  The new “raid lair” is said to have new content, new puzzles, new encounters, and new loot, all on the Leviathan.  Gotta say, I am really excited to see where Bungie takes this!

I can’t use Salty for everything… Can I? (Bungie/Activision)

Emotes, galore!

I’m going to have to be honest here… While I was reading through all of the new content and all the bug fixes and balance changes and quality of life improvements, I was genuinely happy and excited about what Destiny 2’s Curse of Osiris DLC was going to offer me and my fellow Guardians.  But one of the things that just jumped off the page for me was something I wish Destiny had offered right when they introduced emotes:  an emote interface that allows you to equip more than one emote at a time!  Hallelujah!  Seriously, I have no idea why I’ve been deprived of this feature, slumming around with only one of my cool emotes equipped at a time.  Destiny 2 made this even more egregious when it began offering super neat and exotic emotes like the Salty emote, the Flip Out table-flipping emote, and more.  Knowing that I can vanquish evil and have a variety of emotes with which to express my feelings while doing so is a very welcome addition!

Do Guardians have Selfie Sticks? (Bungie/Activision)

But wait, there’s more!  Bungie revealed one of their newest exotic emotes, and it’s going to be a real doozy… When I first saw the Selfie emote, I thought “man, it’ll be really cool to win a hard fought match and then throw down a Selfie emote screenshot to show all my friends!”, but then I realized that all the people that play Destiny 2 that are WAY better than me are probably going to make me really regret liking this emote as they use it against me over and over and over again in the Crucible…  Maybe this will finally be that incentive for me to “git gud” at Destiny 2!

Eyes up, Guardians!  What are you the most hyped for from the upcoming Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris DLC?  Let us know on social media, we’d love to hear it.
