Looter Love: Jennifer DeNault’s T-Shirt Mods

March 15th, 2017 Amanda Vinson Looter Love, Photo Gallery

If you were to ask five-year-old Jennifer DeNault what she wanted to be when she grew up, she might have told you “clothing designer.”  As a creative girl with big dreams, she aspired to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology in Los Angeles to complete her degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising. Funny thing about life is, sometimes it throws you curveballs, directs you down a new path or shows you an alternative future.

Jennifer is an active Loot Crate subscriber with a hunger for gaming, video production, racing and of course, fashion. Every month, Jennifer transforms our monthly Loot Crate t-shirts into her own, unique creations. All of us at Loot Crate look forward to seeing what interesting and detailed designs she’s going to come up with month after month!

We had a chance to chat with Jennifer about how she got started redesigning clothes, her life passions, where her inspirations come from, and her favorite geeky fandoms!:

You’re a producer, cinematographer, director, gamer, streamer, adrenaline junkie, racer and more! Which of those do you like the most and why?

That’s a tough one. But I have the perfect answer. An adrenaline junkie. Because without that, I would never attempt to do half of the nonsense I do! Close second would be flying drones, and then racing, especially Baja. Preferably while my drones follow me. At the end of the day, whatever I’m doing that day becomes my favorite for that day.

How did you get started reconstructing t-shirts or clothing in general?

I got my first sewing machine when I was five years old and I wanted to be a clothing designer ever since. Obviously life turned to a different direction and I ended up in pro-gaming and drones. I love the way it went, but I’ve always had a passion for creating new things. One day while I was in Disney World I saw somebody else wearing the Archer Loot Crate shirt. I loved it! I realized that I want people to know that I’m wearing Loot Crate but in a completely independent and unique fashion from any other Looter out there. I decided to put that idea into modifying specifically Loot Crate shirts into something completely unique that anybody can do, I wanted to inspire every Looter out there to sport their loot pride in their own unique way. The first tee actually started out as my “Ewoking Dead” shirt which had a hole in it from a propeller from one of my drones. So I decided, let’s just roll with it and destroyed the shirt into something vintage and completely rock and roll.

How do you get your inspiration for re-designing Loot Crate t-shirts?

Every design comes from the theme of the box itself. Depending on what was in the box with, what the pin looked like, and what the theme of the shirt was. The Star Trek shirt for example became an entire Couture dress with a leather harness that really embraced the futurism of Star Trek and the lines from the uniforms but in an extremely delicate and modern way.

Do you have a new design in mind each month, or do you wait until you see our t-shirt to decide?

I never plan my designs in advance. For two reasons. One I’m usually onset flying or racing or doing one of the other crazy things that I do, and two, I, just like everybody else, has no idea what the shirt is going to look like. I don’t know what the fit is, I don’t know what color is, I don’t know how big the graphic is, and all of those play into how I modify it to keep those images as much intact as possible.

Which is your favorite Loot Crate t-shirt mod that you’ve created?

I absolutely love my Stark Industries racing chain Wing shirt. The design is so unique that I’m always being asked where I got it from and if it was from Loot Crate to begin with which is the best part. I love the chains, which seems to be the biggest conversation starter when I wear it. I will say though…not the easiest thing to wear while riding a motorcycle.

What do you geek out on?

My drug of choice is horror, Archer. Boba Fett, and pretty much anything Star Wars. I can confidently say that no matter what I reach for in my apartment, everything is related to Star Wars in one way or the other. I had to name my drones, so needless to say they are all Star Wars names. Phasma, Kylo, Starkiller, Han Solo, Leia Solo, Vader, C3PO, R2D2, and several more. I’ve watched the entire series of Archer more than 80 times now, and it’s still just as hilarious. Pam is my spirit animal. The Horror obsession started when I was younger. Making someone laugh, or cry honestly doesn’t take much in entertainment these day. But to scare someone, and cause sheer terror is rare. We are such a desensitized society now that it takes a true dark artist to make you afraid of the impossible. I am addicted to finding those artists.

What have YOU created Looters? Have you ever repurposed your Loot Crate items? Are you building a giant replica of a Loot Crate USING Loot Crates? Maybe a sweater for your friend using eyelashes? We want to see! Share your creations with us using #lootcrate or #cratecraft!
