Manic Monday: Star Trek: The Next Generation Toys, Anyone?

March 11th, 2019 Candice Shane Manic Monday

The 80’s were an interesting time for cartoons and the toys based on them and we know that. However, Star Trek: The Next Generation had some crazy toys too and not even just for kids! It’s Monday, so let’s check out some TNG toys to start our week!

This is just a small smattering of the offerings out there. If you’re a collector, you already know of these but for those of us TNG Trekkies out there — now you know you can start building up your own personal bridge crew!

Star Trek: The Next Generation – Klingon Attack Cruiser

(Playmates)

I always loved when toys let you try out their lil’ buttons that sprayed out light and sounds in the middle of toy stores. It was almost like a warning siren to let your parents know they will NOT want to hear this all through their house. Oh, but we pressed those buttons anyhow didn’t we? We sure did. Note: There’s a technical blueprint in this one. This is just begging you to hang it on your wall in absolute pride and/or so you could start planning your Space Mechanic shop you’ll have in the future.

Star Trek: The Next Generation – Romulan Warbird

(Playmates)

Much like the Klingon Attack Cruiser, this Romulan Warbird was destined to look amazingly cool. Oh, you wanted blueprints for this too? Don’t even worry about it. Boasting Dual Light Up Engines (Engines!?) — you also get these blueprints. I mean, the ship is already built but good to know the technical aspects of these war ships.

Star Trek: The Next Generation – William T. Riker (and others, obviously)

(Playmates)

It’s Riker, my dude. The raddest, baddest beard on all of The Enterprise. I don’t even need to get into why he’s here. Of course you needed this figure. No, he’s no toy. Riker is far more than a toy. He’s a side-line rocking, sultry-eyed Number One and we love him.

Star Trek: The Next Generation – Shuttlecraft Galileo

(Galoob)

I mean, how else is Riker and the gang going to get down onto those planets, you guys? Obviously they need and we also need a Shuttlecraft. You hear that, Mom? I TOLD you it was important.

Star Trek: The Next Generation – Type 1 Phaser

(Playmates)

If you didn’t have the Phaser, you were chumpsnacks. What else are you doing if you don’t have a Phaser? Just dinking around with the ships!? Collecting blueprints!? No, you got the Phaser first and THEN you start building up your ships, figures and outfits. Okay, I may be a bit heated about this but Aunt Debbie didn’t understand what it was and so I just got a singing sunflower for Christmas. She’s written out of my will, guys.

These toys. I mean, what a great way for us 80’s kids to explore our Intergalatic imaginations! Who didn’t want to re-enact a rad space soap opera? I sure did. Heck, I was the only kid who brought a Star Trek lunchbox to school! I may just go get all these toys right now! What a great time to play pretend, right? I also think perhaps I’m needing to resolve my retro toy issues I have with my family. I’ll update you guys on that…

I know you folks are like me and you want more Star Trek: TNG in your lives. We’ve got a wearable Star Trek: TNG item in this month’s Loot Wear and nobody can take this away from you! Jump in fast!
