Tuesday Trivia: Facts About Blizzard’s Diablo!

February 19th, 2019 Candice Shane Gaming, Tuesday Trivia

Get your Kulle-Aid ready, have a sip and let’s go into some Diablo trivia that will draw you back from the dead! Blizzard’s Diablo series has sold millions of copy, per title, and continues to thrive year to year. Why is that? Let’s get into it!

1. The replay value in Diablo games started back from the very beginning, which had one of the first widely seen randomly generated dungeon tilesets that gamers saw in large scale RPG titles. This meant that memorization of tilesets (levels) was quite difficult and made each time a bit more refreshing.

2. It took Blizzard North 3 years to complete Diablo 2 and the concept meetings started 3 months after the original game was released. Since, within the month of its release, it was the highest selling PC title going.

3. The cinematics that existed in Diablo were filmed around the office to get camera angles proper but most often were just co-workers and fellow developers. Look these videos up some time, they’re adorable.

4. Diablo 2 would be the first time players would encounter Hardcore Mode. Hardcore Mode is where a player would make a character and if they died, well, that was that. No restarts and all gear lost. However, if you beat the game despite that — you got intense flexing power with a different shaded name on Blizzard’s internet playing service Battle.net.

5. According to testers, if the first Diablo was not easy enough for their parents to play, they went back to the drawing board. They wanted a game that anyone could pick up and understand and boy, did they nail it.

6. Originally, Diablo 3 had an online Auctionhouse where players could sell their items they got within the game for real world funds. Given the concept that it sometimes overshadowed the actual story and entertainment of the game, not to mention fraud claims, they would shutter the Auctionhouse and please fans everywhere.

7. There is a cow level. Don’t let anyone lie to you. Heck, most diehards have been there and it’s not pretty.

8. Blizzard would, in the past decade, release a patch to allow it so that folks could play their copy of Diablo 2 without the CD — as they assumed most had lost the disc what with it having been so very long. A No-CD patch meant that if people had the game installed, it would no longer require them to use the CD to play. Clever!

9. The least popular class in Diablo 3 is Witch Doctor. Why!? What happened!? Why does everyone want to be a Demon Hunter? Give the Crusader and Monk some love, guys! Sorry, Witchypoo!

10. Despite the fact Diablo came out in 1996, it can still be played online through Blizzard’s Battle.net service. Guess you better get back in there and save Tristram!

Can you even believe how long Blizzard’s Diablo has been rockin’ in the Underworld?
