2021 almost felt like the year of the Indie Game. So many amazing titles released this year, and many of them Indie titles. Valheim took the world by storm, and titles like Curse of the Dead Gods and Loop Hero captivated many! There were also some AMAZING indie titles that got some recognition, but not enough. Here are The 5 Best Indie Games of 2021 You May Have Missed!
1. Happy’s Humble Burger Farm
Happy’s Humble Burger Farm looks like your typical fast food simulator, but there’s so much more lurking beneath the surface. Now, I want to fully disclose that I make a cameo in this game, so I may be a little bias. That being said, it’s a survival horror, mind trip of a Fast Food Sim. It tells a very deep story and has lore buried throughout. The score is perfectly fitting. Then there’s your loveable coworker, Toe. Developed by Scythe Dev Team and published by tinyBuild this is one that must be experienced first-hand, and you can check it out HERE!
2. Inscryption
Inscryption is another game with a much deeper story than what appears on the surface. What starts as your quintessential deck building style game quickly turns into a game within a game within the real world. It’s wild. Semi-unsettling visuals, creepy music, and unique artwork set a stage that you end up diving right off of into a sea of madness! Daniel Mullins has such a way of making things not as they appear. He is also the developer of the equally trippy Pony Island. I’d love to tell you more, but check out the trailer and see for yourself! Developed by Daniel Mullins Games and Published by Devolver Digital you can check out more on Inscryption HERE!
3. UnMetal
UnMetal is a swing in the far opposite direction from the prior entries on this list. UnMetal is an unapologetic parody of games such as Metal Gear Solid. Our protagonist, Jesse Fox, was arrested for a crime he didn’t commit, a point he makes sure to inform us of several times. This game is very self aware, and makes you chuckle at it’s absurdity at every turn. It makes multiple parody references that will make you laugh and feel nostalgic at the same time! Developed by unepic_fran and Published by Versus Evil, you can learn more about UnMetal HERE!
4. Potion Craft: Alchemist Simulator
Potion Craft is a lovely relaxing game, for the most part. There are some Good Vs. Evil mechanics to it at points, but for the most part you make potions! The art, music, and gameplay are very chill with a touch of antiquity. You take control of your alchemist shop and make potions for customers. You level up by trying to navigate a skill tree that teaches you new potions. If you’re looking for something that you can just hang out and relax while playing, this is the game. Developed by niceplay games and published by tinyBuild, you can learn more about Potion Craft HERE!
5. Skul: The Hero Slayer
To round out this list, we’re looking at Skul: The Hero Slayer. Skul follows a small guy on his journey to take down the imperial army! It’s a fast paced rogue-like with a plethora of power-ups and enemies. From slick and quick werewolf skulls to brutal and powerful Kratos-esque power-ups, this game has something for all playstyles! The protagonist is as lovable as can be but is fighting tooth and nail to save his king from Captivity! Developed by SouthPAW Games and published by NEOWIZ, you can learn more about Skul: The Hero Slayer HERE!
