A realization dawned on me this morning; the Spring 2019 anime season is just a couple of weeks away! While some currently airing shows will continue into April, anime fans have a plethora of new and returning series to look forward to. I’ve narrowed down my personal top 5 of these 30+ shows to share with you Looters today.
Returning Shows
Bungo Stray Dogs Season 3 – April 12
I’ve been impatiently waiting for season 3 of Bungo Stray Dogs for over 2 years. Even the manga hasn’t been enough to quench my thirst. When we last saw the Armed Detective Agency, they’d just battled with The Guild and foreshadowed some sort of sinister plot involving Dostoevsky. Kyouka is welcomed into the fold, and Dazai is back, leading me to hope for more Dazai-Kunikida hijinks.
One-Punch Man Season 2 – April 9
Can you believe it’s been over 3 years since the One-Punch Man finale? With City A destroyed and a new HQ built on the ruins for the Class S and Class A heroes to call home, what lies ahead for Saitama? Just when he thought he finally met a challenge, he’s back to knocking out his enemies with a single punch. The struggles of being a hero have never been so real.
New Shows
Carole & Tuesday – April 10
From the visionary behind Cowboy Bebop comes a brand new anime about two young women who just want to make music. Little do they know that their partnership is going to make a real impact. Aside from this being an original anime series, did you know that they held global casting calls to find vocalists for Carole and Tuesday? Pretty cool, huh? I’m also really intrigued to see how Shinichiro Watanabe pictures life on Mars. From initial images it seems we’re not too far away from moving up there. Carole & Tuesday is exclusive to Netflix.
Fruits Basket 2019 – April 6
Waaaaaaaaay back, when the original Fruits Basket anime aired it did so alongside publication of the manga. As we all know this means filler and diversion from the manga-ka’s vision. But that was nearly two decades ago. Now that the series has been all tied up, it seems like a good time to bring it back and stick to the story as it was envisioned by Miyuki Tanaka. Old and new fans alike are sure to enjoy Tohru’s story as she navigates life with the Soma family, a clan cursed to assume the signs of the Chinese zodiac during times of weakness.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – April 6
If you’re into Black Clover, you may want to add Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba to your anime calendar. Tanjiro is on a quest to avenge his slaughtered family and save his sister from a fate worse than death. Demon Slayer brings the promise of fantastically epic battles with monsters and mankind alike. I’ve got my fingers crossed that we hear good news from one of our favourite streaming services ASAP that this series will find a same day as Japan home.
