Back in July, we asked Looters, “What is your favorite co-op game to play with friends?” We got dozens of responses, tallied up the votes, and kept them in our back pocket for safe keeping.
Last week, we broke those answers out again. We took to Instagram, and we asked you, “Hey! What’s the best co-op game? Cast your vote!” We tiered up the top 16 responses, put them head to head, and sat back to watch the show.
Our original sixteen games spanned several different genres: horror, racing, puzzle, combat, the works. Here is the full list of our beloved starters:
- Call of Duty: Black Ops
- Minecraft
- It Takes Two
- Star Wars: Battlefront II
- Cuphead
- Army of Two
- Left 4 Dead
- Overcooked
- Destiny
- Human Fall Flat
- Overwatch
- Dead by Daylight
- Halo
- Mario Kart
- Dying Light
- Portal 2
The rounds varied. Some games won by a landslide, others were split 50/50 and only succeeded by a handful of votes. Still, in the end, there can only ever be one winner. Our final two games were Mario Kart and Minecraft. One pulled ahead, then the other surged forward. It came down to a mere 3% difference.
Maybe we were silly to ask. Maybe we should have known the answer from the start. But the answer to Looter’s favorite co-op game was clear.
Why Looters Love Minecraft
Minecraft mercilessly blue-shelled Mario Kart and won first place in our tournament. The votes were in, but we still weren’t satisfied with our findings. So we asked you, “What do you love about Minecraft?”
The answers we got were nothing less than wholesome. This is what y’all had to say.
“The memories it’s created.”

“I’d say the fact it lets me build a castle, a moat and a complete farm along with personal fish pond all with my other half’s cooperation is my favorite bit. Ok, not one particular thing, but I love multiple things about Minecraft. I used to be a non-believer too. ?”

“This was kinda the first game that just allowed you to do what you want. The end game could also be delayed as long as possible, or beaten as fast as possible.”

“My favorite thing about it is the ease of it all. Life happens and you can fall out of it for years, come back, and pick up exactly where you left off without having to remember what you were doing. Also the versatility… If you want to explore; if you want to create simple or complex creations; if you want to fight bosses… Something for everyone and fun for all ages.”

So there you have it, Minecraft fans. Creativity, cooperation, and nostalgia. Really, isn’t that what all co-op games are about? It’s not about beating bosses and smashing records. (At least, not always.) It’s about having fun with your friends and building memories that will last long after technology advances and the game is no longer functional. And also building ugly houses for the fun of it.
