It’s really hard to undersell what a big deal this was when it happened in the winter of 1980. Like, it was a big deal when Mark Hamill hosted The Muppet Show, no doubt… but droids on Sesame Street?! Talk about blowing a 5-year-old’s mind!
We’re flying our Star Wars flag today with this reminiscence of one of the biggest TV moments of childhood if you grew up in the O.G. Star Wars era, the summit of C-3Po and R2-D2 with Big Bird and the gang on the happiest street in New York. What resulted was some pretty outstanding fish-out-of-water comedy if you’re five years old; just don’t think too hard about why Threepio knows what a fire hydrant is but he doesn’t recognize a tree. 😉
