Awesome Tunes: Three Pivotal Tracks in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2!’

If you haven’t seen Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 yet — well, we don’t want to spoil it for you. But there are three songs that are particularly key on the awesome soundtrack, and we want to share those with you (or relive them, if you’ve seen the film!):

 

“Brandy, You’re a Fine Girl” by Looking Glass

Getting knee deep into the origin story of how Quill’s momma got mixed up with his father. This track plays twice during the film and during two very important scenes to understanding the lovely human Meredith Quill was and what drew others to her light. The best kind of jam to let someone know how delightful they are, and bury itself into your brain for decades.

 

“The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac

This track is made more powerful after the legendary battle that leaves Quill recognizing the importance of the family you choose and that chooses you and not necessarily one of birth. I still get goosebumps when I hear this song and it brings back that moment between Quill and someone who finally is seen as the true father figure that he always wanted/needed. It’s touching and you’re going to remember that scene for weeks to come.

 

“Father & Son” by Cat Stevens

It’s no spoiler that Peter Quill reunites with his long-lost father in this flick. However – and as we noted, avoiding SPOILERS at all costs! – there’s a particular meaning in the use of this Cat Stevens song in the film’s climax that can give you absolute goosebumps.

Sure, there are plenty more jams from this soundtrack that are important. James Gunn and Tyler Bates, the composer for the film, found the most fitting tracks that would be right at home on Star-Lord’s Walkman. Be sure to check out the whole soundtrack!
