For our inaugural Friday Five list, we wanted to deliver a little DIY flavor to keep you active in the new year. So we scoured the inimitable Instructables.com for five do it yourself projects of various degrees of difficulty, featuring fan-created fandom projects that reflect this month’s ORIGINS theme!
Superman In A Lightbulb
Yep, we’re not entirely sure what the purpose of this either. But a tiny Kal-El on a motorized pinion, spinning around inside an empty bulb like he’s on an endless pursuit of justice, is a pretty amazing conversation piece! Turn a Furby into Krang

And you thought Furbies were terrifying to begin with! This nifty presto-changeo project by ‘ModMischief’ utilizes liquid latex to change one of the bug-eyed fluffy toys into the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ supervillain nemesis. Kinda creepy, and totally radical, dude.
Captain America’s Classic Shield Prop

In the earliest days of his fight for freedom, Steve Rogers’ iconic shield looked a little different than the circular Vibrainium number we know best. ‘monsterlego’ came up with this terrific project to create your own O.G. Cap shield, straight off the USO stage or the WWII battlefield!
Donkey Kong Shelving Unit

What could be exponentially cooler than the shelving unit you currently have your figures displayed on? (Well, if you’re using DIY Loot Crate shelving, we think that’s pretty cool. 😉 ) But this is so great! – take a blah old bit of shelving and transform it into an homage to Donkey Kong with ‘Kavalon80”s do it yourself build!
Optimus Prime DIY Costume

Okay, this one is probably the most complex of all. But even if you aren’t a cosplayer by nature, you’ve gotta admit that this classic Optimus Prime look is legit, and straight out of the original Transformers cartoons!
