How do you celebrate a brand new Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow game, written by and starring the original cast and creators in the first new story in years? By throwing a great shindig and getting the crew back together for a live table read!
Jam City’s game studio, TinyCo, joined forces with FoxNext Games and Matt Groening to create the mobile game which includes appearances by Stephen Hawking, Neil DeGrasse Tyson and the legendary George Takei. On June 20th, they held a special event to preview the game and celebrate getting the band back together. Featuring portraits of iconic Futurama characters, gameplay stations, a head-in-a-jar photo opportunity and plenty of Bachelor Chow (aka tasty caramel and cheese popcorn), the highlight of the evening was the live performance and Q&A session hosted by Chris Hardwick that was streamed for fans at home to watch.
Groening made a surprise appearance to introduce Co-Creator David X. Cohen, who lead the reading of “Proposition Infinity” (“For anyone who does not know what a table read is, you should’ve just paid attention the name ‘table read,’” Cohen joked). Nearly the whole cast was on hand to perform—John DiMaggio, Lauren Tom, Maurice LaMarche, Phil LaMarr, Tress MacNeille (who also played Leela for the night), David Herman and Billy West.
