As someone who plays an unreasonable amount of Dead by Daylight, I was drawn to it by the different movie monster killer-types that I could play as or be chased by! I gathered up five of my favorites here for horror fans to try out! Trust me, it’s a lot of fun.
Freddy Krueger: The Nightmare DLC
This is from The Nightmare DLC (A Nightmare on Elm Street) and features Freddy as a killer and Quentin Smith as a survivor. Let me just say that Freddy is one of the scariest killers to come up against as you can’t see him unless he has put you into a dreaming state. And, well, if he has — it’s already too late. You’ll hear the sounds of children singing and then suddenly your head knocks to one side and you’re wandering around in a sleepy haze, hoping to get yourself woken up and back to work on those exit routes.
Tip: If you see a fellow survivor also in the dream state — find them and you can both wake one another up to get out of there fast!
Leatherface (Texas Chainsaw Massacre): Leatherface DLC
I’m absolutely terrified of anything related to Texas Chainsaw Massacre or, well, any horror movie where it’s a bunch of creeps in the middle of nowhere who prey on anyone who stumbles about their property. Leatherface shows up in his yellow apron, a chainsaw and his creepy skin mask and will dance around the map until lining up his sights and send himself careening at you with his chainsaw roaring. Make sure you stick to heavy cover around him and utilize any perk that masks your running trails (shown as red scratch marks to the killer) and serpentine when running in case he builds up his chainsaw attack.
Tip: Since it’s hard to steer him when he’s using his chainsaw, it’s easy to weave in and out of his sights if you’re fast enough but watch those scratch marks!
The Pig Lady: The Saw Chapter DLC
First off: The Gideon Meat Plant is terrifying but it is the best map for a Killer. Survivors loathe it as it’s damn near impossible to maneuver and we can thank the Saw DLC for this map, but for good reason. The Pig Lady makes zero sound with no heartbeat radius that would generally give you an idea of where the killer would be. Add this onto the fact that she can snatch you up and put a Saw jaw trap onto your head, starting a countdown timer where you must seek out Jigsaw’s machines to try your luck at having it removed WHILE hiding from her. You thought fixing generators and getting doors open would be the most of your troubles? Pfft. This killer is the meanest!
Tip: Make sure to utilize perks as a survivor that will allow you an easier time with skill checks that can get not just generators dealt with but also get those traps off your face!
Michael Myers: The Halloween Chapter DLC
Halloween is one of the most iconic slasher film titles of all time and it’s easy to see why when you’re being stalked around Haddonfield by Michael Myers while police lights flicker in the mist. Michael has an Obsession perk that randomizes who he is ‘obsessed’ with killing unless you’re the DLC Survivor included, Laurie Strode. The object of Michael’s obsession will always be visible to him and makes him exhausting to run away from. If you let your Obsession run about, slashing once in awhile but not killing them, it actually gives you perks towards stalking the other survivors and that perk is called ‘Save the Best for Last’ so use it wisely! Don’t worry, Laurie comes with solo-survivor perks that actually make her survival chances greater the more fellow survivors get picked off.
Tip: Laurie is the only one of the survivors that comes with a Decisive Strike perk that allows her to escape her killer while he’s carrying her off once per match, but thankfully if you reach a certain level — that super useful perk can be taught to your other survivors!
The Clown: Curtain Call DLC
While not quite a movie franchise monster, it does give me a House of 1000 Corpses feel when you take a look at The Clown. While not the fastest of the killers, his gas bombs that he hurls from inside glass bottles, can change a game immediately. Let me add, when you see him peering from beneath a spotlight, there are few more terrifying things in Dead by Daylight. With Kate Denton as the DLC’s survivor character, she has hero survivor written all over her. Using Windows of Opportunity, she can see vault spots and palettes to help her get away from her killer by knowing good dodge locations. When she’s lofted up, she actually confuses her killer to make it harder for them to see hooks in which to leave them on and that makes Kate Denton pretty dang fun to play as, well, unless you’re the killer. The Clown may be a bit slow moving but it is his radius in which to hurl bombs and reveal survivors that makes him a good tank character to learn.
Tip: If you want to survive the Clown, build up on perks where you can spot auras like Dark Sense which will let you see the killer for five seconds after completing a generator. You need to see this guy coming!
