Gaming: Fan Favorites from Bethesda’s E3 Presentation

June 10th, 2019 Tyler Sanchez Event Coverage, Features, Gaming

It’s the biggest week of the year in gaming! You can almost smell the aroma of G-Fuel in the air. Of course, you know what E3 week means… huge gaming announcements: something Bethesda did not sell us short on.

If you haven’t watched the full presentation, you can watch it here:

I was there in person, and just being in the crowd made feel super overwhelmed with hype for what’s next from the creators of Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, DOOM, and more. People were dressed up in amazing cosplay (which was insane in the over 90 degree weather), and others were sporting their favorite gaming attire. You can tell Bethesda knows their community, too. It felt like each announcement led to even more cheers than the previous. Let’s get into some of the fan favorites, shall we?

Fallout 76

I was surprised by the amount of cheering that happened when the title card came up on screen: A lot of the Fallout 76 community came swinging at Bethesda last year when the game launched, but Bethesda Studios’ Todd Howard immediately acknowledged the elephant in the room. The dev team heard the outcries from the community and delivered some pretty awesome update for this massive online RPG coming this Fall in the form of Wastelanders. Expect human NPCs, a brand-new main quest with choice and consequence, and of course, new weapons and gear. Plus, there’s a free trial happening this week for E3 on all consoles! I’m definitely going to give it a go.

And if that’s not enough, Fallout 76 will have an all-new Battle Royale mode called Nuclear Winter. Players will battle in a 52-person fight-to-the-death match to see who has the potential to lead the lawless vault, Vault 51.

GhostWire: Tokyo

This was one of my personal favorite reveals of the presentation. GhostWire: Tokyo is a new action / adventure game that plops you into a strange reality. People in Tokyo are literally disappearing into thin air, and you, armed with your own new supernatural abilities, must get to the bottom of this mystery and rid Tokyo of this unknown evil. There was no gameplay shown, but the story and cinematics definitely got my attention. I’ll be keeping an eye out for more info on this title in the future!

The Elder Scrolls: Blades and The Elder Scrolls Online

For the fans of Bethesda’s new mobile game, The Elder Scrolls: Blades, you will be able to play it on the Nintendo Switch this Fall! The best part is that you’ll have the ability to carry over your saved data from the mobile version to the Switch version! That means if you download the mobile version of The Elder Scrolls: Blades and start playing now, you can carry over all of your progress this fall!

As an extremely avid ESO player, this was my favorite reveal of the entire show. This trailer drop follows up on the story of how Abnur Tharn and his Khajiit comrade, Khamira, accidentally unleashed dragons to the land of Elsweyr. To many’s surprise, Sai Sahan, a character who was one of the five companions (which included Abnur Tharn and yourself), made his first appearance in a very long time. But I won’t spoil too much! Just watch it!

On top of the new cinematic, it was also announced that two new DLC packs called Dragonhold and Scalebreaker will be releasing later this year.

DEATHLOOP

Next, we got the world premiere of Deathloop, which puts players on a wild and unique journey in Blackreef, a lawless island that’s stuck in an eternal time loop. The story follows two assassins with conflicting objectives: Colt wants to end this endless cycle, while Julianna wants to keep it going. The only way to succeed? To kill the other. The trailer is super interesting, and I honestly can’t wait to learn more about the mysterious story.

DOOM: Eternal

Oh boy, were people stoked for DOOM. It’s not my personal cup of tea, but I can see why people love it. The action is fast-paced and crazy! Also, blood. Lots and lots of blood. This was really the only game we saw a ton of gameplay of: including gameplay using Orion, a new streaming technology, on a mobile device (using an Xbox controller!).

What’s even cooler is that DOOM: Eternal will have a new kind of multiplayer mode where it’s strategy versus skill: 1 player controls the Doom Slayer while their friend control the army of demons. Strategize with your teammates on how to take down the Doom Slayer OR just kick some bad guy butt as Doom Slayer. Honestly, both sound like a hell of a time.

Obviously, these are just the highlights. We also saw some great stuff on Wolfenstein: Youngblood, Rage 2 DLC, and more, so definitely watch the full presentation! Let us know what your favorite announcement was over on Twitter!
