When @LootAnime asked which of this month’s Loot Anime properties I would want to be BESTIES with hands down I just had to go with the Seven Deadly Sins. Falsely accused of crimes against the kingdom, these magically gifted soldiers are a unique collection and clearly better together than apart.

Meliodas, captain of the Seven Deadly Sins, is sought out by Princess Elizabeth of the Liones Kingdom when she discovers a plot by the Holy Knights to overthrow her father. She finds him in the most unlikely place: the proprietor of the Boar Hat traveling tavern. Meliodas runs the tavern with his boar companion Hawk, the talking child of the giant boar which the Boar Hat sits atop. While his behaviour around Elizabeth is highly inappropriate, Meliodas’ skill as a swordsman and soldier make him nearly unbeatable. And his Full Counter ability is no joke, either.

A member of the Giants clan, Diane has the ability to manipulate the earth around her. She’s also incredibly strong; so strong her attacks can impact the environment around her. When we first meet Diane she is extremely jealous of the attention Meliodas gives Elizabeth but in time befriends the princess. Diane always seeks to protect innocents from danger, no matter the cost.

Ban’s the most immoral of the group, with his thievery, his drunken behaviour, and almost always putting his own goals ahead of the Sins. Ban constantly wants to spar with Meliodas, hoping that one of these fights he will come out the victor. He is very strong and agile, and can fight with or without weapons. His Snatch ability has a variety of uses which can turn the tide of any fight so long as he can sustain it.

The fourth member of the Seven Deadly Sins is King. He also goes by Harlequin, King of Fairies. There are two forms in which we see him, either as a young child or a very portly round-faced young man. King wields a magical staff called Chastiefol which takes several different forms and is quite the formidable weapon. Throughout the series we are shown he has quite the complicated relationship with Ban as well as with Diane. That’s often how friendships are though, right?

Gowther, the Sin of Lust, is the fifth member of the Sins that we are introduced to. His interactions with others are somewhat emotionless, as though he is incapable of them. Gowther’s special ability is called Invasion and allows him to read memories, force people to relive their past, and manipulate people into believing what he wants them to. This probably makes him the most dangerous of all of the Seven Deadly Sins.

Merlin, Sin of Gluttony, is the last of the Sins that we are introduced to in the Netflix anime series. Merlin is a powerful sorceress who loves spending her time researching and experimenting in her laboratory. She rejoins her comrades after spending some time playing mentor to Arthur Pendragon of Camelot, just in the nick of time. She always seems calm, cool, and collected. I’d love to be able to snap my fingers and teleport the way Merlin does.
There’s one more Sin out there named Escanor. I haven’t read the manga yet but as a fan of the anime I’m hoping we see him introduced in the new season coming in 2018 to Netflix. Who am I to turn down more of this adventure fantasy anime with just the right amount of comedic moments?
