Hi, Looters! This month I wanted to spotlight PSYCHO-PASS, one of the four properties featured in our February 2018 TECH crate. If I had to sum up this anime series in two words they would be “Minority Report”. In this universe’s future, the Sibyl System monitors humanity, using collected data and algorithms alongside regular scans of a person’s Psycho-Pass to determine a multitude of outcomes, such as whether or not they need supportive therapies to balance out their mood Hue or aid in finding a suitable career path.
But the primary objective of the system seems to be saving humanity from criminals. Specially trained police officers working for the Public Safety Bureau’s Criminal Investigation Division are tasked with apprehending people who are scanned and found to have an unacceptable Crime Coefficient level. The Sibyl System instructs its officers to bring in the criminals unharmed if possible so they can administer therapy, however there are criminals with coefficients so high that lethal force is allowed so as not to endanger innocent bystanders.
There are two tools at the Investigator’s disposal. The first is the Dominator, their primary tech weapon. Dominators are linked to the Sibyl System and are not functional if the target’s crime coefficient is below the allowable acceptance. It’s first function will paralyze its target, allowing for capture and rehabilitation. The second option, Lethal Eliminator, becomes available when the coefficient is over 300. Lethal Eliminator will completely decimate a body by launching a blast of energy at the target which causes them to explode. There is a third mode when dealing with non-human targets, like tanks and drones. The Dominator has unique muzzle transformations based on each firing option.
The second tool in an Investigator’s arsenal are the Enforcers, people who show the potential of having high crime coefficients but have committed no criminal acts. Former police detectives seem to have the highest chance of finding themselves in this category but are not the only ones. Enforcers are confined to the Bureau offices; they live here and are not allowed to leave unless accompanied by an Investigator. They can be given permission to use the Dominators in the field, and sending them into the fire fight in order to spare their superiors is something the Bureau endorses.
Longtime Loot Anime subscribers might recall that in March 2017’s FUTURE crate we had a great Psycho-Pass Dominator USB drive. If you missed out you can snap one up! The Dominator drive is available in the Loot Vault until we run out.
