Looter of the Week: Shaun Rushby for Loot Socks

October 2nd, 2021 Brittney Wittmer Features, Loot Wear, Looter Love

As Albus Dumbledore once said, “One can never have enough socks.” That’s certainly the opinion of Shaun, long-time Looter and sock collector. Nothing brings him joy like movies and socks, which has shaped his image on social media. He’s has shared dozens of photos of his apparel on Twitter, and so we’re proud to feature him as our Looter of the Week! Shaun answered some of our questions about his cozy collection.

Shaun Rushby Loot Wear

How long have you been collecting socks? What made you start?

I properly started collecting socks in 2016.  Back in the early 90’s, socks were fun!  I had some Bugs Bunny socks for myself and my Best Man at my wedding in 1994!  But then they all just disappeared.  All you could buy were black, blue or grey with maybe a pattern.  It was frustrating.  I was always on the lookout for cool socks.  I found a pair of X-Files socks from another company which opened my eyes to cool genre related socks being available.  At the time I was a Loot Crate customer and I got some socks in a crate.  Due to financial issues, I couldn’t keep getting the crate but I wanted to keep getting something so I came back to just socks.  I think that was in late 2016 or early 2017.  My family started buying me cool socks as well and now I have created a monster!

About how many different pairs of socks do you have?

I have 152 different pairs of socks plus 2 doubles!  135 are fun cool genre socks—the majority of which are from Loot Wear at 24 pairs a year!—and 17 are old black/blue/grey/white ankle/thick woolen socks. (Boring!)

With your outfits, are your socks usually on display, or is it privately fun for you?

I wear them to work so they are always under long pants, until I cross my legs and then they are there for all the world to see!  As they should be!  I love showing off my different socks!  People ask me what I am wearing today!

What’s your favorite pair of socks from Loot Crate? What’s your favorite pair from your whole collection?

It’s hard to pick a favourite pair.  I love so many of them.  Some for the designs, some for the colour (green is my favourite) and some for the way they fit and feel.  I really love a sock that incorporates the Argyle pattern and there is a pair from Loot Wear that feature a character from the TV show, Invader Zim, which I’ve never seen, but they have an Argyle pattern, are a lovely mint green colour and are incredibly comfortable!  They tick all the boxes!

Is there any fandom or series that you love that you don’t have socks for yet?

While almost everything is covered, I would love you guys to do your own X-Files socks, then Lost, Indiana Jones, John Wick, James Bond, The Matrix, Stargate and Supernatural.  How does that sound for a list?!

(Author’s Note: Community Manager Brittney is now desperately requesting Supernatural socks. #TeamFreeWill)

Is there such a thing as too many socks?

NEVER!! I have four drawers filled to bursting with socks and need to take over a fifth!

We can’t thank Shaun enough for taking the time to answer these burning questions—and for being a Looter! To check out more of Shaun’s socks, you can follow him @indianamulder on Twitter. It would be hard to match Shaun’s passion for socks, but if you’re looking to expand your own woolly wardrobe, be sure to check out Loot Wear! Looters get two pairs of socks a month, each fitting Wear’s theme. This month we’re celebrating Trick or Treat with some colorful, hungry characters: Hungry Hungry Hippos! Trick or Treat is available until October 19th, and due to ship early November.
