Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Looters! We’re celebrating this fortuitous holiday by counting down the seven luckiest duos in pop culture. Four leaf clovers, horseshoes and rabbit’s feet don’t have anything on these “charmed” pairs!

Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee (Lord of the Rings)
Not only were these two the definition of “friendship goals,” the fact that they actually survived the tumultuous journey through Middle-Earth proves that the will to endure is stronger in pairs. Their tiny Hobbit stature and complete lack of any combat training would have meant “lights out” for anyone else, but with a little perseverance and a lot of luck, the BFFs—along with the fellowship—emerged victorious (and alive).

Han Solo and Chewbacca

They’ve earned the title of the most “ride or die” duo in the galaxy. Overthrowing an Empire is a full-time job and Han Solo and Chewbacca live their lives one dangerously close call at a time. Whether they’re escaping the clutches of Jabba the Hut or completing the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs (if you round down) the third passenger on the Millennium Falcon had to have been Lady Luck.

Arya and Sansa Stark (Game of Thrones)
One could argue that just making it through the day in Westeros is a feat in itself (especially when you have a creator who so loves killing off main characters.) The Stark family is no stranger to George R.R. Martin’s wrath, having been on the receiving end of some of the most brutal departures in the series, so the fact that both Arya and Sansa have managed to make it this far on their own tells us two things: 1) When the world around you seems to be cursed, surviving is the luckiest thing you can do. 2) Winter is definitely coming.

In the five years that saw the Captain and Commander discover strange new worlds, explore new life, and boldly go where no man has gone before, the fate of the Starship Enterprise and its crew were often left to the fates of the galaxy. The franchise’s massive success was built on the foundation of inclusion, education and respect perpetrated by the stellar duo at the helm of their ship but let’s face it—that mission was risky and luck was definitely on their side.

Rocket Raccoon and Groot (Guardians of the Galaxy)
A modern day Han Solo and Chewbacca, Rocket and Groot always manage to squeeze their way out of some tight spots only to come away unscathed and probably, a few prosthetics richer. While Rocket’s quick wit and natural raccoon abilities paired with Groot’s total and utter Groot-ness may be one of the reasons they’re still flying high with the rest of the Guardians, the other has got to be sheer dumb luck.

Jean Grey and Storm (X-Men)
Two beautiful, powerful mutants coming together and forming an unbreakable bond to help save the world? Consider us the lucky ones! Jean Grey and Storm shared a cosmic connection that stood the test of time and space. With unpredictable and dynamic powers, so much could have gone wrong and nearly did, but their friendship and support for each other is something the universe was lucky to have.

Buffy and Willow (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
Sometimes high school sucks (literally), especially if you’re a vampire slayer fighting evil forces when you should be studying for your Bio exam. Luckily for Buffy Summers, being the “Chosen One” meant meeting and saving her future best friend and witchy sidekick, Willow Rosenberg. These two, along with the rest of the Scooby gang, would help Buffy fulfill her destiny in defeating all things evil and give new meaning to the term “slay.”
