This week Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters and seeing as how we’re filled with GUARDIANS goodness this month, we wanted to test our Looters on just how much they know about our favorite rough-and-tumble heroes! Check out this trivia and learn something before you charge into theaters this Friday!
1. Vin Diesel has gone on record to state that he recorded 1,000 variations of his infamous “I Am Groot” line during recording. That’s a lot of ways to say three simple words!
2. As if you couldn’t have more geeky love for Chris Pratt, he said he based his portrayal of Peter Quill aka: Star-Lord from Marty McFly and Han Solo. No wonder we love him!
3. The Collector’s base in the film is Knowhere but in the comic books, Knowhere is the base for the Guardians of the Galaxy. Perhaps we’ll see that shift in Vol. 2!
4. Speaking of inspiration, Bradley Cooper stated that his voice for Rocket was inspired by Joe Pesci from Goodfellas. I bet you can hear it in your head even now.
5. In three different languages, the word ‘Groot‘ means ‘Big‘ and so it literally translates to “I am big!” and he’s not kidding. The languages are Afrikaans, Dutch and Flemish.
6. One of the biggest reasons Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” is featured in the first Guardians of the Galaxy is because it’s James Gunn’s favorite song. He was overjoyed to put as much fun music from his childhood into this movie and it shows with how stellar the soundtrack performed on the charts!
7. While Zoe Saldana’s character of Gamora states quite ardently that she doesn’t dance, Zoe herself is a professionally-trained ballerina. No wonder she’s quick on her feet!
8. Game of Thrones fans would be interested to know that Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo) was up to play Drax but was concerned about typecasting once he showed his brute strength in Thrones. However, it DID free him up to take on Aquaman so we can’t be too mad!
9. This isn’t the first time Groot and Drax teamed up. In fact, Vin Diesel and Dave Bautista actually worked on Riddick together in 2013!
10. Guardians of the Galaxy was the highest earning movie of 2014 and we can’t wait to see how Vol. 2 does this year!
