Tuesday Trivia: Princess Bride Facts? As You Wish!

January 30th, 2018 Candice Shane Lists & Things, Loot Wear, Tuesday Trivia

We’re incredibly excited to have more The Princess Bride love this February for Loot Wear and because of that, we figured we’d nab some little trivia tidbits. Check these out and see if your nostalgic love for this film doesn’t come crawling back like a R.O.U.S!

1. Andre the Giant was a hero on set for Robin Wright who, when she would get terribly cold during filming, he would place his large palm upon the top of her head until his fingers dangled over her eyes and warm her back up! She fondly recants this story often as she said she never felt safer. So sweet.

2. Speaking on that safety that was important for Robin Wright, during a scene where her dress intentionally was meant to catch fire, writer William Goldman yelped during the scene as it was being filmed. This ruined the take and a whole new dress had to be used. What makes this even funnier? He’s the one that wrote that in and even he was still caught off-guard!

3. In one of those Hollywood-esque stories, meeting for the first time on the set actually bloomed a smitten crush situation for Robin Wright and Cary Elwes. They talked often about how their behavior was completely not acting when they’d give those cute little fluttery eyes at one another. Elwes often attributes his charm in that film to being taken by the young Wright.

(20th Century Fox)

4. Rob Reiner, who directed the film, would actually leave the set if he knew scenes with Billy Crystal were coming. This wasn’t due to some angst and behind-the-scenes drama but because Crystal would make him laugh so hard that he’d get stomach aches he couldn’t get rid of for hours. Not the most ideal for a director!

5. Back to that lovey-dovey business with Elwes and Wright (Listen, it’s almost Valentine’s Day. Deal with it), the two of them would actually mess up their final scene purposely just so they could keep doing takes together and prolong the time they had on the film. This is incredibly cute but can you imagine how frustrated those Production Managers were? Cute little jerks are costing them thousands per every hour of their lovebird shenanigans!

6. Andre the Giant would actually call everyone on set by ‘Boss‘ as he felt it would help them not focus on his height so much and give them an overall positive feeling instead of one of fear. Thinking on it, it’s pretty smart and also telling of how often he had to think on things like this due to his impressive size.

(20th Century Fox)

7. Uma Thurman actually auditioned for Princess Buttercup but it was determined that she had more of an other-worldly look rather than a classic beauty that Robin Wright possessed. Man, what an interesting Kill Bill prequel that would’ve been.

8. Don’t get excited about taking out your enemies with Iocaine powder. It doesn’t actually exist.

9. In order to make sure they could fit a lot of story into a feature length film in the 80’s, all of the main characters are actually introduced in within the first ten minutes of the movie. No joke, it actually clocks in around seven minutes!

(20th Century Fox)

10. Wallace Shawn was told that the casting directors were seriously pushing for Danny DeVito for the role of Vizzini. Even when Shawn was told he got the role, he was still visibly nervous during every take as if he was concerned at any point DeVito would be called in if he mucked up the role. Talk about self-imposed pressure!

With all of these awesome facts in your back pocket, get your loved ones together and revisit The Princess Bride again this February! And get your Princess Bride EXCLUSIVE wearable in February’s Loot Wear. Missing that would be INCONCEIVABLE!
