As a huge fan of everything Disney and DEFINITELY Disneyland and Disney World, I’m always curious how the parks operate through the years. I always wondered, when visiting, why certain rides were gone and why. Defunctland has answered SO many questions for me, so let me pay it forward!
This first one that I embedded up there, this is about the ride Captain EO that used to be quite a draw at Disneyland. I was obsessed as a devout young Michael Jackson fan, so it was the first thing I raced to get to. They would put it back out every so often, but nothing was quite like the first time being introduced to Captain EO. But where did it go? Why did it leave? Don’t worry, Defunctland will get to the bottom of it.
In this one, about ExtraTERRORestrial: Alien Encounter, I dove in immediately due to remembering that ride VIVIDLY. Back in the 90’s, when the ride came out, I remember being shocked at how un-Disney the ride was but loving it all the same. My brother ran screaming from it, children were shook and adults were sheepishly thrown at how intense the ride was and so it’s not a HUGE surprise that the ride was removed. Man, people would LOVE it today though. Check that video out and let Defunctland tell you all about this crazy attraction.
And this one is just plain fun to me. Sure, it’s not digging into rickety rollercoasters or rundown hotels, but it does talk about the retired walk-around characters that would take to the streets on Disney theme park properties. How many of them do you remember? California Adventure was rife with the coolest walk-around characters that really made my double-digit kid days fun.
