It’s been eighteen years since the first Devil May Cry hit PlayStation back in 2001 and it’s been a storied history! With Devil May Cry 5 coming out this Friday, it made sense to get everyone caught up and quick! Check out these trailers and a rad story summary by Suggestive Games!
Now, these are just the numeral sequels and such and I won’t be including the cameos in other games or even the soft-reboot, DmC, as we’re purely going through our typical Dante’s journeys here. I’m also not including all of the several remasters and re-releases that are on current consoles in the listings, but you can find them pretty much in the usual places like PlayStation, Xbox and PC. Don’t worry, trailers won’t spoil you if you want to start fresh, but make sure to not watch the story summary if you want to dive in fresh and clean before you play the 5th installment! Best hurry though! We’ve been waiting ten long years for Devil May Cry 5 and we’re ready to go!
Devil May Cry – PlayStation 2 (2001)
Our first introduction to the revolutionary and incredibly storied being named Dante. This is where gamers were introduced to games that saw how popular this kind of gameplay mechanic could be and piggybacked their games with the same kind of story-fight-gather-upgrade-fight-story-upgrade kinda system. Fast paced and chaotic yet buttery smooth, it was unlike anything we had seen before.

Gorgeous. This was our first super glorious look into Devil May Cry and it came to the PlayStation 3. I’m still haunted by the dinosaurs, guys. Still.
