Blizzcon 2017 was last week, and boy was it chock full of some amazing new things coming to Blizzard games – and one of the hottest additions is Overwatch‘s newest Hero, Moira!
Now, I got to get my hands on Moira on the PTR (Public Test Region) on PC, and I gotta tell you that she is a ton of fun to play, and will certainly be an exciting new addition to the lineup of heroes in Overwatch. But, don’t take my word for it! Take a look at the videos below to get a better idea of what the newest Support in Overwatch has to offer:
Moira’s Origin Story:
Blizzard is no stranger to super kick-ass cinematic trailers, origin stories, videos, etc, and the work they’ve done with the Overwatch is no exception. The Moira origin story not only gives you a solid set-up for how she fits into this crazy world of Overwatch, but it also really emphasizes the Good vs. Evil vibe we’ve got going on in the backstory of this game. You know what this makes me wish the game had? More of a story-based mode to play! I’d love to really have an opportunity for this battle between Talon and Overwatch to get fleshed out. There’s just so much backstory that we haven’t had an opportunity to be a part of, and I really hope we get a chance to someday.
Now, while this origin story is a great look at Moira, what we need now is get an idea of how she plays in the game, right? Well, look no further! Below is a quick look at what you can expect to see from the newest Support Hero on the battlefield!
A sneak-peak at Moira!
After playing her on the PTR, I do have to say that they use the term “Support” for her rather loosely. Make no mistake, Moira can heal, but the only way to heal effectively is to get into the fray and go toe-to-toe with your enemies, because Moira has a finite amount of resources (in the form of Biotic Energy) that she can use to heal her allies, and the only way to replenish that resource is by damaging her foes! When she’s not using it to heal her friends, she boasts a pretty solid primary attack that deals moderate damage to enemies (and she even gets a little self-healing from it as well). Her secondary ability is a large ball of bouncing energy that can either channel healing beams to your buddies, or damaging beams to the baddies. But the best part? It can ricochet off of walls! So beware of facing a Moira in close quarters, because that ability is deadly when it can have time bounce around. She also has a pretty solid teleport ability, similar to Reaper’s Shadow Step, and her Ultimate is a Zarya-esque beam of death and destruction that can pierce through enemy barriers, deal a ridiculous amount of damage, AND it can heal herself and her allies at the same time.
Now, she sounds crazy overpowered, right? And I think in the right hands she can be, but she’s also incredibly squishy and can be countered relatively easily if the opposing team is coordinated enough to keep her at bay. All this being said, she’s an incredibly cool new addition to the cast of characters in Overwatch, and I am very excited to see what she’s capable of once she goes live!
