Very few people can say they don’t have Jim Henson as part of their childhood, thanks to Sesame Street and The Muppets. However, there was so much more to this man and his incredible workshop than meets the eye. Thankfully, we have Kevin Perjurer’s Defunctland to showcase it all!
Here, I’ll show you a couple definite key episodes but make sure to check out the rest over at Defunctland because it’s over 3 hours of goodness. As this is part of Perjurer’s DefunctTV series, you can expect to find behind-the-scenes looks to a lot of your favorite childhood moments, but also look into the core Defunctland series which covers theme park history, most notably Disneyland and the Disney World parks. I must watch three of them a week, even if I’ve already seen them.

Not many people know that Jim Henson had been working on things prior to The Muppets and even in the midst of trying his lot at their inception. Namely, Sam and Friends who would go on to be the headliners for advertisements and commercials that you have to see to believe.

There’s a rather interesting and storied past to how Jim Henson and his team worked through launching The Muppet Show when Sesame Street was perceived as children’s show, but creating the new show for primetime. It was a breath of fresh and furry-laden air, surely. Make sure to watch this one, at the very least, because it’s some fascinating stuff.
Episode: Six: The Final Jim Henson Hour
It’s difficult when you have to imagine that your heroes or just general icons of your lifetime sometimes press forward through their careers or pass on from us entirely. However, the projects that Henson had his hands on before we lost him are some of the most fitting for what his craft would deem masterworks. Take a look at where Jim Henson led his Creature Shop and his other production concepts towards the end.
