It’s hard not to be a fan of Bethesda’s hit series The Elder Scrolls, especially with the huge lore and mythos surrounding the series. There are so many tiny tidbits and factoids that could keep your head swimming for years but we thought we’d grab just a handful to get you going. Check these out about Skyrim and more!
1. In Skyrim, if you use your Unrelenting Force ability into the night sky — the Aurora skyline will appear.
2. The phrase “Took an arrow to the knee” comes from a Guard stating “I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow in the knee.” which means they were an adventure until they became married. Norse slang, man. What are you gonna do?
3. Within a specific questline, if you drink enough to the point of passing out, you will wake up married to a Hargraven. Don’t drink around Hargravens, kids. It’s a bumpy road.

4. Between the hours of 10pm and 4am in Skyrim, you can have a chance at finding a floating and glowing moving shape. As it happens, it’s The Headless Horseman and if you decide to follow him, he’ll lead you to his tomb at Hamvir’s Rest. Just another interesting little bit of business that most never even know is there.
5. Sean Bean, of Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings fame, actually did voice work in Oblivion. Hey, he knows his audience.

6. The music that everyone remembers from Morrowind and Oblivion are works of Jeremy Soule and, through each iteration and sequel, he re-works and refurbishes the music to re-introduce it to long standing fans and grab the attention of new ones. It’s a glorious work, to be sure.
7. The Collector’s Edition to Oblivion, which stood at $10 more than the price of the regular retail copy, went on to become the highest selling Collector’s Edition of all time. Well, for quite awhile until another Bethesda hit got the attention and became the most sought after. Can you guess which? Fallout 3‘s Collector’s Edition with the steel lunchbox stole all of our hearts (and wallets) and fought for a place beside Oblivion prior to Skyrim.
8. Oblivion is the only game in the series that takes place in two eras during the history of the game. It starts in the end of the third era and ends in the beginning of the fourth. Trust me, a lot happens in that bit of time and there’s nothing like being in Oblivion at the beginning of a new age.

9. If you find yourself being questioned by a guard or overhear someone being interrogated about a sweetroll — it’s a call back in Bethesda titles all the way back to Morrowind.
10. Patrick Stewart, who plays Emperor Uriel Septim in Oblivion, quotes Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar often within the game. A little tip of the hat to his many productions on-stage in his acting history.
