Remember back to your favorite anime as a kid. Whether it be a a romantic high school comedy, a gory horror story or even one of the many popular Shonen action anime, they will always hold a special place in your heart. Today let’s have a conversation about some of the best series for a live-action adaption. Some of these anime series have rich settings that would look great with practical effects, and others are series that would be easy to portray in live-action without CGI. Here’s our Top 5 Anime that deserve a live-action adaption.
5. Cowboy Bebop
Okay, I know what you’re thinking. Of course she would say Cowboy Bebop. It has been a major topic in the anime world for years that this cultural phenomenon get its own live-action movie. Well, CONGRATULATIONS because it is happening, people! Netflix has taken the reigns and already on the ball when it comes to this remake. While there was speculation that Keanu Reeves would be playing our main man, that was all very untrue. Not that he wouldn’t make a great Spike Spiegel, but for now let’s leave him to John Wick. Spike’s story revolving around his past life with the Red Dragon syndicate could be told very well in a live-action movie, and Vicious just might be the next great movie villain. Long story short, this is going to happen eventually, so let’s all just pray that it gets made right. We are counting on you, Netflix!
4. Food Wars
AKA Shokugeki no Soma, this is a Shonen action series that’s not about magic nor romance, but the competitive world of cooking! DON’T LIE! No one can resist a good cooking show and I know you are addicted to “The Great British Baking Show,” just like the rest of us. The main characters are students at an elite cooking academy, and seeing all that food being prepared in a live-action show would be absolutely mouth-watering. The anime does a fine job depicting food in high detail, but nothing can beat the real thing. Even Gordon Ramsay and Rachael Ray would have a run for their money with this adaption.
3. Soul Eater
Ok but can you imagine Maka’s epic fighting skills one the big screen? Sure, Soul Eater would take quite a bit of CGI to pull off, but it would be well worth it if done right. Soul Eater is set in a fictional world where characters are capable of using supernatural powers by channeling the wavelengths of their souls. The anime would be accessible to everyone, thanks to the presence of at least as many Western elements as there are Japanese ones. It seems like there’s no end of characters: Kid Death, Liz and Patty are likely to appeal to audiences no matter where they hail from.
2. Berserk
This anime, for sure, is a fan favorite, and was voted one of the best anime series of all time. Violent, depressing, full of medieval action and with a scope easily as broad as Game Of Thrones (and a budget to match), “Berserk” would be brutally difficult to adapt. Anyone who’s read the original manga will know how much terrifying, spectacular imagery from this series screams out to be filmed. Who wouldn’t want to see a real-life Guts take on Griffith in this never-ending anime hit.
1.One Punch Man
Who doesn’t love One Punch Man? The concept of the show is simple, the main character Saitama is a man who can destroy anything with literally just one punch. The jokes are hilarious, the character design is extremely unique, and as a protagonist Saitama is super likable and entertaining. The show can go from light-hearted to incredibly intense with the snap of a finger and would make an AMAZING adaption if done correctly. *finger’s crossed*.
