Disney+ has officially been out for a week, and it’s easy to say The Mandalorian has garnered the most attention on social media. Is that really any surprise, though? People have been dying for some sort of Bounty Hunter back story (Boba Fett or otherwise) and Lucasfilm finally delivered. Here are some of our favorite moments from Episode 1 (not The Phantom Menace, smartypants).
***SPOILER WARNING***
Obviously, this post will have spoilers. If you have never seen The Mandalorian, and you clicked this article… that’s on you.
The Opening Scene
Honestly, though. This scene alone sets the tone really well (with a cool twist)! It’s always fun to start off with a good ol’ fashion bar fight. Clearly this guy is a pro, considering how many guys he took out by himself. Not gonna lie, I squirmed when the door chopped that guy in half (who’s gonna clean that up?).
But man, I wasn’t expecting Mr. Bluey-McBluerson (who, so far, is unnamed) to be the one with the huge bounty on his head. He seemed like a jolly old fellow. Not gonna lie, we hope we haven’t seen the last of him.
Everything IG-11
Maybe we just have a soft spot for droids (K2-SO, anyone?), but for having such a bland personality, IG-11 is just cool as heck. This thing literally just walks out into the middle of an open battlefield and nails enemies with his blasters by just flailing his arms around nonchalantly. He could teach a thing or two to the Empire.
The dynamics between the Mandalorian and IG-11 were great, especially because of the Mandalorian’s clear impatience with droids. It’s a shame IG-11 took a blaster to the head for a not-so-friendly fire by the Mandalorian because this duo could have been as iconic as Luke and C-3PO. Okay, maybe that’s a little over-dramatic, but you get the picture. My bet is IG-11 is gonna get fixed up eventually and make a return, but maybe that’s just wishful thinking.
Baby Yoda, duh!
I could have just written an entire article on this little nugget. To find out that this expensive bounty that the Mandalorian had been going after for this entire episode was merely a baby was mind-blowing. Well, we mean baby relatively… Baby Yoda (who is not actually the Yoda) is actually 50-years-old, so he’s looking pretty good for his age!
The fact that IG-11 was ordered to exterminate this little cutie made me raise an eyebrow. Fridays cannot come fast enough– one new episode a week is killing us. Everyone wants to know how Baby Yoda is connected to the larger Star Wars universe.
