If you can believe it, it’s been awhile since we’ve wrapped up the original trilogy for Mass Effect. Since we’ve got an awesome item in this month’s Loot Gaming for Mass Effect, we thought we’d give a refresher course for those needing a re-introduction!
Now, if you haven’t played Mass Effect and intend to, this may not be the article for you. However, if you’ve played one or two and maybe wanted to find out what went down in another – these aren’t too intensely spoiler heavy. You can actually find out some good information about the games and get yourself into the series by this first video, as it gives a brief little glimpse on what the series is truly about. It’s all reasonably detailed without going to deep into spoiler times.
Mass Effect:
IGN does a great job summarizing the first title in the Mass Effect series here, making sure you understand the alien races and how very different this version of our future is. With an understanding on the choices that Bioware introduces in this series as well as the romantic options between different crew members and Commander Shepard.
Mass Effect 2:
Shepard Gaming put together a fantastic analysis and loving piece about (my favorite of the series) Mass Effect 2 and it would be a shame to not share it. Not only does it bring you up on the story post-ME1 but it shows just how much progress was done visually and gameplay wise in the sequel. Trust me, all this video did was make me want to replay this game all over again. I forgot how perfectly the cities and maps were laid out and just how intriguing every story mission was!
Mass Effect 3:
Once again, Shepard Gaming’s Keanu Miller puts together a balanced yet compelling piece about why he enjoyed Mass Effect 3 so very much. While it was heavily criticized for taking a lot of choice from the player, something not really felt in the story before the finale here, plenty of people still applauded the game. While I enjoyed it, because I just wanted to devour any ounce of Mass Effect’s story and atmosphere, I was pained in realizing it was the end of my Shepard and our Normandy. I’m still hurting from it!
Extra Credit – Game Theory: Proving Mass Effect’s Indoctrination Theory!
Follow along with MatPat’s Game Theorists video where he explains the indoctrination that started in hopes to take over all of civilization. We can’t promise this won’t blow your mind. Well, either that or you’re going to look at your red yarn charts behind your Mass Effect shrine and realize you were right all along! Either way, this is one entertaining bit of Mass Effect business that I know fellow fans would love.
I know what you’re asking yourself right now. “But what about Mass Effect: Andromeda, Candice?” and I’d quietly remind you that it is not a game that follows the same story as the original three in the series. In fact, it sets off on its own story and while I could go into quite a bit about it, and heck are there are a lot of videos, I felt it best to focus on the trilogy. Besides, that’s where everyone’s most romantic notions of Mass Effect come from, right? With every year we get closer to Bioware’s upcoming Anthem, the more I realize that we’re further away from that original three games. Sigh. Oh, how I miss Shepard and the crew.
