Of the many colourful ACTION COMEDY characters you’ll meet in this month’s Loot Anime, Vash the Stampede from Trigun is one of my personal favorites. Let me introduce you to the 60,000,000$$ (Double Dollar) Man.
Known throughout all of Gunsmoke as the Humanoid Typhoon, Vash the Stampede is a stellar marksman with his custom silver 6-shooter. Nearly every town he travels to is utterly demolished by the time he leaves. This has Meryl and Milly, adjusters from the Bernardelli Insurance Company, hot on his trail. Can you blame them? They might go broke handing out insurance payments.
Let’s talk about Vash’s ability to somehow come out mostly unscathed during these devastating battles. He’s extremely agile, and it seems he has quite the knack for figuring out bullet trajectory. Vash can also lob back a bundle of explosives and always blow up the baddies without even looking. It’s possible there’s more to him than meets the eye…
“The worst kind of womanizer” was one of the key phrases used to describe Vash in the first few episodes of the anime. And boy, they were not kidding. Vash falls instantly in love with every woman he perceives to be a damsel in distress. And he comes on strong. I’m sure he’s fallen in love hundreds of times over before he meets Amelia in Trigun: Badlands Rumble.
At the end of the day, despite Vash’s goofy behaviour, all he wants is for the world to be full of love and peace. He seeks peaceful resolutions and strives to keep the innocent from harm. Surely no one like that could be held responsible for all of the destruction that follows.
