Behind the scenes, our People Operations team works to keep all of the employees here at Loot Crate happy, healthy, and absoLOOTly dedicated to making each crate special for our Looters. We sat down with one member of the team, Josh Ball, to ask him a few questions about what he does day in and day out!
How long have you been working at Loot Crate and what is your role right now?
I have been with Loot Crate for almost three years now. (Man, time flies!) Currently, my role at the company is the Employee Engagement Manager in our People Operations department.
What does an “Employee Engagement Manager” mean/do?
It’s a really fun and rewarding role – essentially my goal here is to provide the employees with as many opportunities as possible to thrive and succeed at Loot Crate. I work with every member of People Operations, and with teams across the company, to improve employee morale, engagement, and more.
What has been your favorite themed crate since your time working here at Loot Crate?
Oh man, that’s an incredibly hard question… there have been so many incredible ones! Honestly, I’d probably have to give you two that were my favorites: My favorite Loot Crate is probably our March crate from last year, Versus. I’m a huge Daredevil vs. Punisher fan, and I am a HUGE Alien vs. Predator fan. By my all-time fave was our May Loot Gaming Crate: Warcraft, Legend of Zelda, Dark Souls? How could you go wrong – I do praise the sun, after all!
Any fun stories from your time working with the Culture team?
So while I am a member of HR and People Operations, I am a member of what is colloquially called the Culture Team – we’re all about improving and helping develop the culture and engagement at Loot Crate. And I honestly couldn’t come up with just one story, but I will say that it’s an incredible honor, and a joy, to represent this company and work with all of the incredible people that are a part of it.
You’ve recently been the host of Looter News Live. Tell us what that is like – how does it feel to be on the camera live for the Looter community each week?
It truly is a privilege to get to be a part of the external experience for our Looters, as well as the internal experience for our employees. I had some ridiculously huge shoes to fill replacing the talented and incredible Peter Weidman after he moved on from Loot Crate to pursue some other really cool new endeavors, but it has really been a blast getting to hang out with our Looters live every week – and it really allows me to fulfill some of my performance passions too, since I’ve been an actor since I was a little kid!
What is a story that you would like to cover on Looter News Live?
Oh gosh… Hitting me with tough questions here! I mean, eventually we’ll be really diving into some pretty intense stories and evolving plots when the MCU starts cranking out all of their upcoming movies (Thor:Ragnarok, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, etc) so I’m super pumped to see what kind of great stories we’ll get to share with our Looters as those movies unfold.
When you’re not working, what do you spend your free time doing?
My main hobbies outside of work are spending time with family. I love a good book, am a huge fan of shows like Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, and more…but my go-to is gaming. I have been a huge gamer my whole life, and I even learned to read playing through Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past back in the day! Soon, though, I’ll be welcoming my first child into the world, my little Emily, so my awesome girlfriend Shawnacee (also a gamer!) and I will be spending a lot of time raising our little gamer-to-be!
Thanks so much to Josh for taking time out of his busy schedule and Culture Team duties to talk with The Daily Crate!
