It’s easy to love heroes but what about those villains you love to hate? Video games are rife with the most grating of villains but sometimes, you kind of can’t help but dig their style. With Agents of Mayhem releasing this week, we thought we’d cover one you’re going to delight in encouraging his demise.
CONTENT WARNING: This is within the same universe as Saints Row. You know that game series. The one filled with foul language and obvious adult situations. If that’s not your cup of tea, might want to skip this one!
A little backstory to get you up to speed: The video below is Agents of Mayhem. Well, this is Agents of Mayhem set to the style of The A-Team’s iconic 80’s intro. Which, let’s be honest, it fits beautifully.
If you finished up the stand-alone title Saints Row: Gat out of Hell, you recall that Johnny Gat could make sure Earth was ‘recreated’ as well as his precious timeline restored. Agents of Mayhem takes place in Seoul, South Korea in the future well after the events of Gat out of Hell. An organization known as MAYHEM has been founded by Persephone Brimstone (another introduced character from Gat out of Hell) and funded by Ultor from Saints Row 4 to defeat LEGION, a group hell-bent on seeking out the nations of the world to destroy them. With the Agents of Mayhem’s help — they can work towards defeating LEGION.
Enter… August Gaunt.
You know those YouTubers that make you cringe but somehow, somewhere, people are viewing their videos and skyrocketing their fame? Yeah, that was August Gaunt’s start. At 11 years old, he had a hit single ‘Chewin’ Gum Til I’m Crazy‘ which not just promoted him from the tune’s catchy beat but got him noticed by the dieting craze community.
Problem was, Gaunt started getting high on his own hype and within years of massive touring schedules and non-stop celebrity exposure — he had started to go overboard. He became paparazzi fodder quickly where they could catch him in his acts of hedonism and crazed binging. Living like that can get expensive and jet fuel isn’t as cheap as he may have thought at one point, which lead Gaunt towards… dubious investments.
Before you could check out his latest insatiable shenanigans on popular gossip sites, he was moving forward with a new line of high-end headphones that had curious effects on consumers. Gaunt caught the attention of Doctor Babylon and the rest, well, it’s MAYHEM history.
Or the future. We’ll see how that pans out.
