WandaVision is the Marvel phase four kick off that we needed. While I do love all of the previous MCU films, WandaVision offers a very different take in that universe. Here are some of the greatest things about the show and why you need to hop on the hype train (if you haven’t already).
5. Music
Something that typically goes unnoticed in films but is at the forefront of the show is the amazing music. Composer Christophe Beck, who also scored the Ant Man films, is a great choice for the job. With every new era portrayed in the show a new musical intro is introduced. It’s actually quite a feat considering he had to compose music for multiple sitcoms and the present day. My personal favorite intro is the “Bewitched” style song from episode 2 titled “WandaVision!” You can’t tell me this won’t be stuck in your head all day!
4. Design
From the title sequence to the set design, they want all really capturing each new tv sitcom era. To really capture authenticity, they used some older film and special effects techniques from those time periods. For the “Betwitched” episode they hung the props on strings from the ceiling so they appeared to be floating. On top of that, the costumes and hairstyles all fit with each new decade. Hats off to the crew and designers!
3. The Mystery
Some fans find this to be annoying, but I love the format of the weekly cliffhangers. We have become so used to watching content at once, but I find the mystery of not knowing what happens next far more enjoyable. Spending each week coming up with fan theories and having something to look forward on Friday night has been a great experience.
2. Cameos
I will try to avoid spoilers but the cameos and new characters add a very dynamic element to the show. One of the biggest cameos by someone who is outside the MCU has possibly setup a two wildy distant universes to combine. There also is a unique take on cameos by including them within the commercials and end credits.
1. The Cast
Every cast member knocks it out of the park. While they bring a ton of humor and really nail the different eras for each character, there are serious moments between Wanda and Vision that really stand out. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany both bring a greater emotion to the characters that is newly explored in the show. Then you have all the stunning Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, Kat Dennings returning as Darcy Lewis, and Kathryn Hahn as Agnes.
