When I originally wrote up the Tuesday Trivia for Adventure Time, I was overwhelmed with how much info there was! Good news, since we’ve got Adventure Time in Loot Wear (as well as Loot Crate!) this month, I got the opportunity to share more! How many of these do you know?
1. Pendleton Ward has stated that he had inspiration for Adventure Time via shows such as Beavis and Butthead, Pee Wee’s Playhouse and even the movie My Neighbor Totoro from Studio Ghibli. Makes sense that there’s so many genres and styles in the show, right?
2. Betty Ward, Pendleton’s Mother, was the inspiration for Princess Bubblegum and was originally named Betty. She was a huge reason for Pendleton’s love of animation as she was the Co-Founder of the Artists Foundation of San Antonio.
3. Olivia Olson and Martin Olson play both Marceline and Marceline’s father in the show. Pretty cool to get to have your Dad voice your character’s Father!
4. Simon Petrikov is the past self of The Ice King and is the reason both are voiced similarly. There are so many shifts and references to past selves and even future selves that sometimes it takes some intense watching to capture all of the nuances. Tom Kenny voices Ice King and Simon, but is mostly known for his voicing of a particularly Square little sea sponge.
5. “Pure Imagination” from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was the inspiration for the song “Evolution” sung by Dr. Gross in the ‘Preboot‘ episode as the Doctor showcases his menagerie.
6. The genderbent version of Finn and Jake is officially named Fionna and Cake in the episode of the same name! But did you know that artist Natasha Allegri originally came up with the concept in a piece of art she posted to her Tumblr page?
7. The folks involved in the creative worlds of Adventure Time have also done their own projects, featuring their unique art and writing styles. Shows like Bee and Puppycat and Over the Garden Wall all come from the beautiful brains of these Adventure Time alums.
8. Ice King may have a tattoo of a penguin on his tush. We can’t confirm it, but if everyone’s running out getting penguin tattoos on their rear, we now know they’re fan of Adventure Time!
9. Princess Bubblegum speaks German, however, if you watch the show’s German dubbing – it’s turned to the Turkish language.
10. Pendleton Ward had originally always wanted Finn and Jake to be wandering little goofballs who would live in camps as they went along their adventures. However, a more stabilized location helped establish more personality and thus the treehouse was created!
