This Sunday, WWE will crown its first ever Women’s Tag Team Champions inside the Elimination Chamber. After announcing the new championship in December, a series of matches were set to determine who would challenge for the new title.
In what is expected to be a grueling match inside the unforgiving structure, we will have six teams (three from Raw, three from SmackDown Live) face off for the chance to make history. The field is set and we will look at the competitors (with some GIFs).
From Raw:
RIOTT SQUAD (LIV MORGAN & SARAH LOGAN) – Since debuting alongside Ruby Riott, Logan and Morgan have formed a pretty solid tag team. Their bond and their schemes (along with the help of Riott) has elevated them as one of the most dangerous teams. But without Riott being anywhere near the match (as she has her match with Ronda Rousey for the Raw Women’s Championship that night as well) we have to wonder whether or not the Riott Squad would be as good as a duo. That’s the wild card of the match.
BOSS ‘N’ HUG CONNECTION (SASHA BANKS & BAYLEY) – The duo have had a long-storied history dating back to NXT. At times they have been bitter rivals while at other times they are the best of friends. What could be the fan-favorite selection of the match, we have to remember that Banks isn’t going to be at full strength after suffering an injury on Monday. Not only that, Bayley was pinned in Monday’s triple threat tag team match, thus putting her team as one of the two teams to start the match. They’re a great duo, but might not be at 100 percent come Sunday.
TAMINA & NIA JAX – They have to be the favorites to win the whole thing. The size and power of these two have been dangerous since their alliance back in the fall. Not only are they a dangerous team, but they continue to punish the opposition. There is no better example than from this past Monday where they won their match in dominating fashion, taking advantage of a partner-less Bayley. It would be no surprise if this tandem obliterates the competition and wins.
From SmackDown Live:
SONYA DEVILLE & MANDY ROSE – We are sure this Corey Graves’ pick but don’t let his crazy obsession fool you. Deville and Rose both debuted together as part of Absolution and have remained a close-knit duo since Paige’s retirement. What makes this team dangerous is that they both are one of the most experienced tag teams on the roster. Given Rose’s nasty attitude and Deville’s relentless fighting background, don’t be surprised if this team makes a big splash inside the chamber despite being one of the teams to start the match. And also, it helps that they both were in last year’s Elimination Chamber match as well.
THE IICONICS (BILLIE KAY & PEYTON ROYCE) – If you want to talk about experience being a team, these two have been friends since high school and came up through the ranks of NXT to SmackDown Live together. They never seem to want to do anything without the other (like this year’s Royal Rumble match) and perhaps they will find a way to hide (perhaps climbing to safety atop the pod) to avoid danger throughout the match. But perhaps that might be their strategy to steal a shocking win to become the first ever Women’s Tag Team Champions. That would be iconic!
FABULOUS GLOW (NAOMI & CARMELLA) – Unlike all the other competitors, Naomi and Carmella were never a team until they entered the tournament to qualify for this match. It would be shocking to see these two come out on top. But both women have more than what it takes to win. Both have won the SmackDown Live Women’s Championship, with Carmella being the first ever Women’s Money in the Bank winner and Naomi winning the first ever Women’s Battle Royal at WrestleMania. Perhaps these history-makers can do it one more time.
