Ed Begley Jr. hosts this episode of American History Mysteries where, in 1942 the American Government – in anticipation of the “International Threat” – spent $1 Trillion dollars on the largest and most expensive robot in history. Tune in as we unveil this lost footage for the very first time.
In this month’s theme video for BUILD we asked what would happen if you gave a giant weaponized robot the gift of humanity. As to be expected, the results are both disastrous and hilarious.
Our love of classic film and 1950’s era sci-fi inspired the concept of this month’s shoot. Based off of a Perry Bible Fellowship comic, Loot Crate Studios’ Senior Producer Jamie Parslow and Stephen Kramer Glickman (who you may recognize from our Loot Crate DX commercial!) came up with an awesome concept. Glickman additionally wrote the script and the piece was directed by Julian Higgins.
We were honored to get to work with such amazing talent! Ed Begley Jr. served as our host for American History Mysteries, our Unsolved Mysteries homage. Furthermore, we worked with Richard Riehle, Brent Weinbach, and Jesse Heiman! If you pay close attention, you can also spot incendiary cameos from Brad Gage and Helen Highfield.
But the main focus here is the robot, right? How giant was it? In reality it was only about 7 feet tall, the rest was the magic of VFX and forced perspective. Additionally, Trevor (our robot) was voiced by none other than Master Shake himself — Dana Snyder. Find out even more about what went into this video when our behind the scenes drops later this week.
