On the playlist of every Otaku there are tons of hardcore anime songs. We get it. We are fans, too, and not gonna lie, I even listened to “Kawaki wo Ameku” from Domestic Girlfriend on the way to work this morning. The feeling a good anime theme song brings is indescribable and we are here to list some of the most loved and our personal favorites of all time. Give it a listen and make sure to let us know what your favorite anime song is!
Soul Eater: “Resonance”
This heart pumping opening really gets you ready for all the action of Soul Eater. A show about young grim reapers and their battle to protect their school, Death Weapon Meister Academy, there are plenty of fighting sequences to go around. This song is perfect for this adrenaline rush of an anime. You could even listen to it while pumping some iron!
Yuri On Ice: “History Maker”
A beautiful song for an even more beautiful anime. “History Maker” differs from many of the other hardcore pop songs on this list but sticks true to itself. An anime about 23-year-old Japanese figure skater Yuri Katsuki and his attempt to restart his career. This extravagant song is so inspiring you might have heard it played in the real rink at the 2018 Olympics by Miu Suzaki and Ryuichi Kihara. Click here to watch their performance!
Tokyo Ghoul: “Unravel”
Definitely a crowd favorite, ever since this song was released in 2014 it has received extreme praise. Tokyo Ghoul follows main character, Ken Kaneki as he transforms from ordinary human to flesh eating ghoul. “Unravel” is a perfect opening to this dark fantasy anime and will continue to be loved by everyone who hears it. I honestly can’t remember the last time I went to a convention and didn’t hear it play at some point.
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion: “Colors”
You just can’t help wanting to watch more after seeing this theme song. Full of bright colors and exciting graphics “Colors” is a perfect opening top the even more impressive Code Geass. The show follows Lelouch, the black prince, who has endless ambition and uses the power of the Geass to build a world based on his ideals. Make sure to give it a listen!
Attack On Titan: “Guren no Yumiya”
Personally, I prefer “Shinzou wo Sasageyo”, but based on popular demand, Guren no Yumiya always wins. I can see why, this opening always leaves you screaming the words even if you don’t know the song. Attack on Titan is set in a world where humanity lives within territories surrounded by three enormous walls that protect them from gigantic man-eating humanoids referred to as Titans. Guren no Yumiya is so intense and hardcore just like the actual anime itself. Definitely one to listen to, if you can handle it.
Pokemon:”Pokemon Theme Song”
You know you started singing this as soon as it popped up on your screen. A true classic, one of a kind. The Pokemon Theme Song is one for the books and is probably the catchiest song on this entire list. I would explain what Pokemon is, but if you have found yourself on this page you probably have a good idea already. So do yourself a favor and press that play button. You can thank me later.
Guilty Crown: “My Dearest”
Okay, I know what you’re thinking, but hear me out. This is not the most popular anime theme opening ever, but i still felt like it deserved a spot on the list. “Why,” you ask? Because the main character of this anime sings the song in the anime, itself. The story revolves around Shu Ouma, a high school boy who inadvertently obtains an ability called “Power of the King” that enables him to draw out items called “Voids” from other people. It is a beautiful song and deserves more attention. Therefore, I have put it on the list. So give it a listen, you won’t regret it!
Naruto Shippuden: “Blue Bird”
Out of the billion Naruto theme songs this one is the BEST. Of course, that is a matter of opinion, but if you are thinking of another song… you are wrong. We can all recall a time where we find ourselves singing this one in the shower. Naruto Shippuden is an anime about Naruto Uzumaki who wants to become Hokage and protect his beloved village of Konoha. I know that is pretty broad but if I spent more time explaining, we could be here all day.
Cowboy Bebop: “Tank!”
One of the most famous and beloved theme songs of any anime ever, this opening is near and dear to many anime-lovers’ hearts. This mixture of Jazz and hard bop beat, to the unmistakable trumpets, this anime opening is one for the playlist. Cowboy Bebop is about the futuristic adventures of an easygoing bounty hunter and his partners. This one differs a lot from most anime opening theme songs so give it a try.
One Punch Man: “The Hero!! Set Fire to the Furious Fist”
ONE PUNCHHHHHH!!! I can hear the first words of this song in my mind all the time. One Punch Man is a superhero anime that follows Saitama, a young man determined to find a worthy opponent who can’t be defeated by well, his one punch. The opening is loud and obnoxious and colorful and all that you could ever hope for honestly. Epic song for an epic anime.
Neon Genesis Evangelion: “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis”
One word: ICONIC. This is THE most loved anime theme song of all time, hands down. I could listen to it day and night. When violent monsters descend upon Earth to destroy humanity, a reluctant young man joins a small squad of pilots under the command of his cold and dictatorial father to drive back the menace using giant machines that seem to have minds of their own. This song is perfect for this anime and will be sung for ages as one of the most adored anime songs of all time.
BUT WAIT there’s more… you can bet that I made a super awesome Spotify playlist for you. ENJOY!
