At Loot Crate, we’re fans first. That’s why we’d like to showcase some of our team’s favorite fandoms, starting with anime! Today we’re going behind the crate to meet two of the biggest anime fans in our office: Chrystal Villamarzo and Connor Garrity. We spoke to this anime-zing duo about how they first got into anime, their current faves, and their recommendations for those who are new to the genre!
Chrystal Villamarzo is an avid gamer and seamstress who has been a graphic designer for Loot Anime and Hello Kitty and Friends for almost a year.
How long have you been watching anime and/or reading manga?
25 years.
What was the first anime you watched that got you hooked?
Sailor Moon.
What is your current favorite anime and/or manga?
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and The Rising of the Shield Hero
What anime would you recommend to someone who has never watched anime before and why?
My Hero Academia. I feel it has a nice balance of themes, love, hate, struggle, acceptance, and the drive to being something more.
Connor Garrity is a sneakerhead who has served as project coordinator for many crate lines, including Loot Anime and Hello Kitty and Friends. He recently celebrated his third anniversary here at Loot Crate!
How long have you been watching anime and/or reading manga?
12 years.
What was the first anime you watched that got you hooked?
Yu Yu Hakusho as a kid, Bleach when I was a teen.
What is your current favorite anime and/or manga?
Anime: Baccano. Manga: Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad
What anime makes you openly weep?
Yuri on Ice, Your Lie in April, A Silent Voice, any confession scene in a Shoujo anime, Clannad, Clannad After Story, Episode 4 of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, when Luffy rescued Robin, My Hero during the end of any epic fight, and many more.
What anime would you recommend to someone who has never watched anime before and why?
Depends on their interests, but Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood or Cowboy Bebop because they draw you in and keep you emotionally invested.
