Kingdom Hearts is the perfect blend of Disney’s charm and storytelling and Final Fantasy’s gameplay and aesthetic. That’s probably what attracts so many kinds of gamers (and non-gamers) to this series.
With Kingdom Hearts III on the way, we’ve seen some cool returning and all-new worlds in the game that has us extremely excited. What other worlds can we expect? Here are a few that would blow our minds.
(Fair warning that this feature contains SPOILERS to the Kingdom Hearts series as a whole!)
Wreck-It Ralph
This one seems like a no-brainer to us! With Ralph Breaks the Internet hitting theaters next year, it’s a perfect time to bring Ralph, Vanellope, and the gang back for another adventure with Sora, Donald, and Goofy. Just traversing through different video game worlds from the film (like Fix-It Felix Jr., Hero’s Duty, and Sugar Rush) brings a lot of different mini-game and gameplay options to the table. Plus, Kingdom Hearts is always about the cheesey “light versus dark” schtick, and Ralph’s conflict with himself being a villain but not a bad guy would be a good story element. Sadly, this world might not come to fruition, due to Ralph already being announced as a Summon character. But hey, we can dream!
The Sword in the Stone
Merlin has been a prominent character throughout the entire Kingdom Hearts series, residing in Traverse Town in the first game and Radiant Garden in the second. It’s a little weird that he so often appears outside of his “actual” world. In Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, Master Yen Sid mentions to Mickey that Merlin and the Three Good Fairies are helping Lea (formerly knowns as Axel when he was a Nobody) train to use his new Keyblade. It would be really cool if The Sword in the Stone world were introduced as a sort of “training grounds” for Sora and the other Keyblade wielders.
Pocahontas
Pocahontas is one other “Disney Renaissance” films still not represented in Kingdom Hearts in some fashion. She (along with Princess Tiana from Princess and the Frog and Merida from Brave) is one of the only official Disney Princesses to never appear in a Kingdom Hearts game in some fashion, as well. Governor Radcliffe would be the perfect antagonist to utilize the darkness at his will and attempt to claim the land of Pocahontas’ people.Grandmother Willow would also be a great way to pass wisdom and answer some unanswered questions. Most of all, we want Pocahontas and John Smith in our party to kick some Heartless butt.
The Emperor’s New Groove
No one can deny how amazing this would be. First of all, Kuzco is the best Disney princess and the ultimate comedic character of all of Disney’s films. He deserves his time in the Kingdom Hearts timeline. There is just so much about this film that could be translated so well into a Kingdom Hearts game. Having a battle as you ride the rollercoaster down to Yzma and Kronk’s secret lair would be phenomenal. Not to mention the fun you could have if you could drink the various potions and turn into different animals. Besides, who doesn’t want to fight along side Kuzco and Pacha? Also, random dance numbers. Lots and lots of random dance numbers.
The Jungle Book
Many don’t know this, but The Jungle Book was actually planned to be a world in Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep for the PSP. Dataminers were able to load up the code and actually run around in an unfinished area that includes King Louie’s throne. Being the very last film that Walt Disney ever worked on, this film has always been a little bit special to Disney fans, and putting it in the game would actually mean a lot to many. On a lighter note, The Jungle Book has plenty of charming characters and the world is vast and unique. There aren’t any jungle-set worlds in Kingdom Hearts III that have been revealed thus far, and The Jungle Book could definitely fill that quota.
