Since we’re pushing deep with Marvel for this July’s TEAM UP Loot Crate DX – and as SDCC prepares to drop some Iron Fist news (Also maybe Daredevil? Yeah, we are reading between the lines, guys) – we thought we’d tap into the Netflix series The Defenders and dig into some trivia! How much do you know about Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daredevil and Iron Fist? Let’s find out!
1. While the show tackles some of the deeper cuts of Marvel’s Hell’s Kitchen line-up, original Marvel comic book The Defenders actually featured Doctor Strange, The Incredible Hulk, Silver Surfer and Namor! Crazy, right? What kind of show would that be?!
2. You can spot a picture of Stan Lee as Matt Murdock and Jessica Jones are leaving the police station in several of the episodes. Have to have those cameos!
3. On her 67th birthday, Sigourney Weaver was announced to be joining The Defenders cast as the big bad. Not bad, Ripley. Not bad!
4. In order to keep visual continuity, each character’s wardrobe and color pallet features distinct colors, also demonstrated across the cinematography of the show. Luke Cage features a bit of yellow, Matt is red and Iron Fist always has a hint of green in his orbit. Jessica usually features either purple or blue tones.
5. Marvel had themselves quite a year as Marvel’s Inhumans came out in 2017 the same as The Defenders premiered. Talk about rounding all the bases! Between that and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D there is no lack of Marvel for fans to get into.
6. In Episode 6 of The Defenders, you can hear Matt Murdock (Daredevil) playing the theme song of his own show on the piano. We all love a callback, don’t we?
7. Did you know, in the comics, at one point Yondu and Howard the Duck were part of The Defenders? Yeah, the lineups for that team got pretty insane.
8. There are tons of small easter eggs hidden all over the series. One of which is an ip address that, if you go to it, gives you the site for the show. Another shows a timestamp on a security camera that lines up to the date of the show’s release.
9. What dictates when the actors names pop up in the opening credit sequence? Nothing too complicated, t’s actually showing in order of appearance based on their respective Netflix shows. Starting with Daredevil and ending with Iron Fist.
10. The Punisher may appear in the trailer to The Defenders but he never appeared in the series itself. However, his own series is hinted at in a teaser trailer at the end of the series. Talk about a long walk to a trailer!
